Chris West is 22 and still recovering from crash that nearly claimed his life when he was a passenger in a car that went off road in Dorset 6 years ago. Dr Sarah Assheton from BASICS Hampshire responded – and operated on scene so he was alive when he reached ICU in Southampton.
Even then his family was warned he’d be bed or wheelchair bound.
Ta-da! Chris has fought back with excellent help from his family and rehab. But road cycling has recently put it all together for him – “rehab on two wheels” as he says.
The young man whose life support might have been switched off six years ago has just ridden hundreds of miles from his home village of Downton to Paris, fundraising for us. And came back to huge acclaim from Dr Howard Simpson of BH, the firefighters from Fordingbridge who were there cutting him out on the day and his family and supporters.
He’s still fundraising on JustGiving – check it out!
