Students battle to win funds for charities

This month BASICS Hampshire was the charity pick of Kristie Sheryn and Alex Coles who formed one of seven student teams from Ringwood School & The Burgate School, Fordingbridge, who passionately battled it out in a Dragon’s Den style forum for a share of £1,600 for their chosen charity.

Brilliant BASICS Hampshire advocates Krystie Sheryn and Alex Coles with judges

The money had been donated by the Ringwood & Fordingbridge Lions club – so it was a Lion’s Den! – and the students’ efforts were judged by a panel including the club’s President, Barry Richardson, and the mayors of Ringwood and Fordingbridge: Cllrs Steve Rippon-Swaine and Malcolm Connolly.  A hugely imaginative scheme which benefits the charities – and the students.

They presented in teams using a range of methods including film, leaflets and power point presentations.  The judges said the overall quality was superb – making their task even more difficult.

In the end, all the teams won a proportion of the money, with the teams representing the Honeypot Children’s Charity, Lucy’s Day Out and BASICS Hampshire in the first three places.
